Grading Blogs
I have found grading the blogs to be easier than grading written entries as there are no handwriting issues. You can choose manual approval of all posts which means they are sent to your email first and you approve them before they are displayed publicly. You may also choose whether to allow anonymous users to post blogs. All of these settings are found when in edit mode on the Schoolcenter website, under the "Page Settings" link.
Suggested Blogging Rules
  • Students must follow all school rules.
  • Students must comply with the Acceptable Use Agreement for use of the laptop.
  • Students' messages will be read and monitored carefully. Inappropriate messages will have immediate consequences
  • Students may not share their passwords with any other student.

Students who break these rules may lose their online blogging privileges. This will result in the student's being required to blog on paper.

BlOGGING

What is a Blog? Blog is short for weblog. A weblog is a personal journal that is published on the web. A math blog is a personal math journal that is published on the web.

Five Blog Types

1) Vocabulary Blog - For this type of entry, you will write the math term and a definition. The definition must be written in your own words. Include examples and details that will help you to remember the meaning of the vocabulary word;

2) Concept Blog - Answer a question by blogging your answer in such a way that I know you understand the math concept;

3) Strategy Blog - For this type of blog, you will be given a math problem. You will focus on the strategies needed to solve the problem. Each time you do something to solve the problem, explain why you are doing that step in your strategy blog;

4) Problem-solving Blog - You will be given a math problem. In this case, you need to blog a response that uses all of the problem-solving steps needed to solve it; and

5) Reflection Blog - You may write about any thing mathematical. This is a place to share your math thoughts and ideas, successes and failures, questions and answers!
